Shiva Nataraj

Shiva, whose name means "kind" or "gracious," reconciles many opposites in himself: He is benevolent and ominous, meditative and ecstatic, a god of everything and yet with a preference for certain earthly places like Mount Kailash and the city of Benares. Shiva is worshipped in many forms, as a great Yogi (Mahayogi), who practices asceticism or devotes himself to meditation, as the great Lord of the World or as Lord of the Dance, Nataraja, who dances the ignorance under his feet into oblivion and destroys everything that is not based on truth and love.
